Derek Helmore to Chair Forth Construction

We are delighted to announce that Derek Helmore (FRICS MaPS), a partner at Hardies has agreed to Chair Forth Construction.

Derek Helmore joined Hardies in 1972 became an Associate in 1987 and was assumed as a Partner in 1997. Derek relocated from Dunfermline in 2003 to open the Stirling office. Derek has extensive experience in the development and construction of social housing through providing particularly Quantity Surveying services to Housing Associations for many years. He is retained by several Housing Associations as Employer's Agent. Derek is currently involved in the reconstruction of a 9-hole golf course and the complete refurbishment of a 'Greek Thomson' building both in Glasgow.

Pamela Brown is the Raploch Urban Regeneration Company's Community Benefit Development Manager, appointed in September 2004. Pamela joined the Raploch URC from Stirling Council where she served as economic development executive for ten years.

As Head of Service Pamela ensures that socio-economic benefits - such as the creation of jobs for locals, contracts for businesses - are written into the procurement process. Employment training and business growth are also Pamela's responsibility as well as investigating and developing new and innovative projects, such as Radio Raploch. Community Consultation and Engagement are an equally important aspect of her role.

Since her appointment, Pamela has successfully piloted the Scottish Government's Community Benefit in Procurement initiative and helped establish innovative training and recruitment projects such as Breaking The Mould and Community Enterprise which has trained dozens of unemployed locals into full-time work.

A Glasgow University graduate (Master of Arts), Pamela's previous employment includes executive role with Stirling Council's Economic Development and careers officer with Strathclyde Regional Council. Born and brought up in Clydebank, Pamela now lives in Stirling with her two sons.

More Information: Stephen Lynas is Charter Architect and an Associate of the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland and the Land & Development Manager at Hadden Construction based in Aberuthven, Perthshire, providing Main Contracting, Development & Residential Housebuilding Services to a wide variety of clients in both the Public and Private sector.

With over 15 years experience in the construction industry Stephen has worked in Private Architectural Practices in Glasgow, Stirling, Edinburgh, Dunfermline and Alloa. Stephen has also more recently worked in Project Management Consultancy prior to joining Hadden over 5 years ago.

Stephen has in-depth experience of private and affordable housing, education, healthcare, industrial, retail and commercial projects procured through traditional, design and build, negotiated, construction management and partnering routes. Stephen has particular responsibility at Hadden for its Hadden Homes brand, Land Acquisition, Development Management, Bid Management, Business Development and Sales & Marketing, as well as providing Architectural Consultancy Services to the Company and its Clients.

Stephen has a comprehensive knowledge of Planning & Development Control, Building Regulations, Environmental and current construction Health & Safety legislation and practices. As a Committee Representative of the Stirling Chapter of Architects he represents the Chapter at the Environment, Housing & Town Planning Committee of the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland. Stephen is also an active member of the Fife Construction Forum.

Hadden Construction are a private limited company employing over 100 staff and operatives with a current turnover of £17.5m on projects across the central belt of Scotland, Fife, Perthshire and Tayside on contract values of £100,000 to £6m.

More Information: Forth valley College is the biggest provider of Construction related education and training programmes in central Scotland. The majority of progammes offered are part-time and designed to meet the needs of major clients such as local employers, training bodies and the local community. Currently the department of construction delivers at both the Clackmannan and Falkirk campuses.
